How to Get a Perfect Night’s Sleep

Have you ever woken with puffy eyes and dark circles underneath? Have you ever woken up feeling irritated and exhausted? All of these are signs of a bad night’s sleep, and if this happens too often, it can lead to bigger problems. You need your rest every night to allow your body to rejuvenate, which is why getting a good night’s sleep is essential for your health and beauty. If you’ve been struggling to sleep through the night, here are some useful tips to help you change that.

Exercise

It’s often hard to sleep when you feel like there residual energy left from the day, or your mind won’t switch off. If this is frequently happening to you, one of the best ways to tackle this issue is by fitting in a daily work out. Making an effort to schedule in some more exercise into your routine to help you keep fit and use up your energy for a good night’s sleep is crucial. Even something as simple as a daily walk can help you to burn off any extra energy. Being outside will also help to contribute to a better night’s sleep.

Avoid Caffeine

If you are feeling tired a lot of the time, it might feel like it’s necessary to get your energy boost from coffee or other caffeinated drinks, but the truth is this could be what’s causing you to feel exhausted in the first place. Too much caffeine will keep you up at night and can interfere with your sleep cycle when you do eventually manage to drift off. Try reducing your daily caffeine intake, and certainly avoid drinking any of these kinds of beverages after 2pm.

Change Your Mattress

Mattresses that are uncomfortable or don’t provide your body with the right support are also big contributors to restless nights. It’s recommended that you change your mattress every 8 years, so if yours is older than that, it’s time to invest in a new one. Consider how firm you would like it to be (firmer is better than soft to support your body properly), but also think about the size of it. The more space you have to sleep in comfort the better, and for couples sharing a bed this is even more important. You need to find the right mattress size and the right support to wake up feeling rested.

Avoid Screens

It seems as though everyone is looking at a phone or a computer screen these days, and while it’s easy to get lost scrolling through Twitter, online shopping, or looking up random bits of information, if you’re doing anything like that before you go to sleep you won’t be helping yourself. If you want to read anything before bed, choose a physical book rather than using a screen to help relax your mind.

If you’ve been struggling to sleep recently, or would simply like to improve the quality of sleep you’re getting, use the tips above to help you make the right changes to achieve this.
