The Bridal Gown

Without a doubt, the wedding gown is the most important dress in the ceremony. Today’s bride loves an understated and chic gown.

The sleeveless gown with lace over the slightly plunging back is popular. However, 2018 has brought back the wedding dress of color. Brides are going with darker, deeper bridesmaids dresses to frame her blush pink wedding dress.

Standing next to bridesmaids dresses in gunmetal gray with a satin finish and the look is electric. All eyes are on the bride and her pink hue is breathtaking.

The Bridesmaid’s Styles

One shoulder gowns or dresses with tiny straps are the trend of the year. Darker hues of gray, navy, black, and plum are in the lead. Whether they are dressed in flowing floor-lengths or short and sexy, chic and elegant is the order. If the modern bride wants to stay away from the trendy dark colors, they can make up for it with brightness. Hot sunny yellow, bright teal, or a medium gray are the second color.

Mix and Match Separates?

Staying in the ultra elegant styles like long sleeves and form hugging skirts of a modest length, another hot look is alternating the fabric of the tops and skirts. For example, two bridesmaids can wear smoke blouses with navy blue skirts, and two can wear navy blouses and smoke skirts.

Shoes

Shoes are a big deal this year. If all of your bridesmaids are wearing the same dress, let them choose the shoe of their choice within the color palette. This gives them some individuality and adds some flare to the wedding.

If you are opting for a deep color or a very bright color, use the shoes for your splash of color. Hot pinks, silver, or even red can give you the twists you are looking for.

Fabrics!

Keep in mind that fabrics are things like cotton or silk. When we talk about bridal dresses we are talking about fabric finishes. Chiffon and Charmeuse are fabric finishes. Understanding the finishes and how they function will help you choose the right dresses.

Chiffon

A very popular choice because it flatters all body shapes and wears well in heat.

  • Lightweight
  • Flowing
  • Does not cling to the body
  • Perfect for draping
  • No distinct sheen

Georgette

Georgette is very much like chiffon except it is a bit heavier. This works better to control the movement of the dress. It is also useful for outdoor weddings.

Satin

Perhaps the most popular choice for wedding dresses and other formal attire. This finish is not intended to wear in warmer temperatures. Perspiration is not satin’s friend.

  • Very high sheen
  • Silky and soft
  • Catches the light and movement
  • Better worn in a cooler wedding

Charmeuse

Charmeuse is a cousin to satin. It is a bit softer and the sheen is a bit muted. The draping is more fluid. It is a beautiful option. Still a fabric for cooler environments.
