So many remedies and treatment plans are in the market today, from pills and steroids to facial masks for blackheads. First, let us examine what these infuriating little acne spots are.
Blackheads are a result of clogging and blockage in your skin pores. The clogging is an accumulation of dirt, oil and dead skin cells, forming a small bump. When this bump opens up and comes in contact with air and the moisture within, it turns black, hence the name blackhead.
The formation of blackheads can be triggered by quite a number of factors. Bacteria is one of the major causes of blackheads that can be sourced from the environment or by constantly touching your skin. Propionibacterium acnes is a bacteria that can cause acne which then develops into blackheads. Hormonal changes can also play a major role, this is why blackheads are prevalent during puberty, pregnancy and during menstruation. Hormones can cause an excessively oily skin, a prime platform for acne. A less common cause of blackheads is a reaction to medication- corticosteroids, antidepressants and certain hormonal medications can lead to the development of blackheads.
Treatment for blackheads are a dime a dozen. There are potentially harsh OTC medications or expensive and painful medical procedures and even some specially formulated facial masks for blackheads. There are over-the-counter drugs, creams and gels that claim to rid the skin of blackheads. These products usually work by either targeting the bacteria on the skin, killing off both the harmful and useful bacteria, or reducing the skin’s production of oil. These products may contain harsh chemicals which may cause further skin irritation and reactions.
Antibiotics and prescription medications may be recommended in particularly severe cases. A dermatologist may also be able to individually rid the skin of each blackhead, using a specialized equipment. The thing is, these tools may not always be forgiving. In some practices, pricking may be used which is definitely painful. The more expensive medical procedures in the bid to eliminate blackheads are laser and light therapy. These procedures can run into thousands of dollars, and are usually employed by celebrities.
A particularly effective remedy for blackhead removal is the use of facial masks. These facial masks act as a form of peel, exfoliating the skin, getting rid of the dead layer of skin that causes acne. These masks also go deep into the skin removing the clogs and blockages within the hair follicles. Using facial masks for blackhead removal reduces the risk for skin irritation and reactions, as they are usually made with mild, organic ingredients. They are also the easiest and most convenient to use.
