What Makes a Good Skin Care Routine?

If you ever do a google search to find a skincare routine that you can follow, you are bombarded by thousands of different options of products to use, how to use them, and even facial tools that have taken over the beauty industry. It can sometimes get a bit overwhelming, especially because everyone has different skin types and other personal and work daily routines, let alone the majority of us don’t feel the need to wake up at 6 am just so that we can follow a 20 step Korean skincare regime that involves, toner, essence, face wash, moisturizer another essence, serum, and the list goes on.

This is perfectly fine for those who have the time, and the budget, to buy all those products and spend an hour in the bathroom. We, however, are all about the simple pleasures in life. This article will cover the basic things that any skincare routine comprises of making it a good starting point for anyone who has never attempted to have a routine of any kind.

Let’s dive right in.

The Bare Minimum Steps in A Few Words

The closer you are to using natural and organic products, the better it is for your skin and the environment.

Anyone can at least do these three and they are the bare minimum. Depending on the type of skin you have and whether you have any issues such as blemishes or acne, you would try and find out what the best products for your specific needs are. This website has some useful information about this here. The three main steps of anyone’s simple routine are.

  1. Cleansing – involves washing your face with a mild natural cleanser. These come in ranges from mild to slightly stronger ones with acids and anti-bacterial ingredients.
  • Toning – Used to mainly balance the PH of the skin. Always use it after cleansing and before any serum or moisturizer. Range from Alpha hydroxy acids to milder rose water and green tea extracts and some have Vitamin C and E in them. The common variety comes in a watery liquid to be placed on a cotton pad and swept across your skin.
  • Moisturizing – To hydrate your skin and create a barrier from harsh environmental pollutants. Many brands have taken it upon themselves to turn to make sure they do not use any harsh chemicals in their products and stick to naturally derived extracts, one such is lxmi.com/. These have several different varieties from the thicker creams to the thinner ones and for specific types of skin such as oily, combination, or dry skins. They come in tubes or bottles. Look for the non-comedogenic ones which means they do not block your pores or cause pimples.

Taking It A Step Further

Those three steps above are your basic ones. then if you have a little bit more time to do some TLC, you can add some further steps such as:

1. A Serum Treatment – these are usually packed with concentrated and active ingredients that help specific problem areas such as wrinkles, blemishes, or spots on your face. They come in various types from Hyaluronic acid to Retinol and vitamin C, the later has seen to have numerous benefits for the skin. The closer you are to using a product that is safe, clean, and sustainable the better off you will be.

2. Add Sunscreen – this cannot be stressed enough; one must always wear sunscreen. if it is in the winter you can wear a lesser SPF, but in summer choose a higher protection index. The sun, as amazing as it is, also has some harsh side-effects on the skin when people over-do it. We won’t get into these negative effects of sitting in the sun for too long, because we know you are intelligent enough to know already.

As such, adding good quality, facial sun cream to your routine, will help you in the long run and you will thank yourself for it when people around you have sunspots on their face and you don’t. nowadays you get tons of different varieties of this too, and those that have natural products in them will be your best bet.

There you have it, as promised we kept it simple. We hope you can at least abide by these quick and easy steps in your daily routine in keeping your precious skin alive and well – Afterall it’s the only one we have!
