We like this little joke here…but it’s more or less true…diamonds can be some kind of friends. If we want loyalty, we’ll buy a dog, if we want love, we’ll get married or get engaged with the one we love, but a diamond, can make us confident, can make us feel loved and strong.
This little article here is about the diamond gemstone. About some sensational jewelry you can buy from the internet and about how to care for a diamond.
A diamond is a transparent crystal of bonded carbon atoms that crystallizes into the diamond lattice – this is a variation of the face centered cubic structure. As you probably already know, diamond is the hardest natural material known, where hardness is defined as resistance to scratching and is graded between 1 (softest) and 10 (hardest) using the Mohs scale of mineral hardness. Diamond has a hardness of 10 on this scale. Because it can only be scratched by other diamonds (considering its hardness), it maintains its polish extremely well. Unlike many other gems, it is well-suited to daily wear because of its resistance to scratching. This is actually the place where the popularity for “diamond engagement rings” begun.
There is one other important thing you must know about diamonds. This is kind of a joke because we all know ths…they are extremely expansive…let me give you one example: in 2008, the Wittelsbach Diamond, a 35.56 carats blue diamond once belonging to the King of Spain, was sold for over US$24 million at a Christie’s auction. In 2009 a 7.03 carats blue diamond fetched the highest price per carat ever paid for a diamond when it was sold at auction for 10.5 million Swiss francs (9,5 millions US $).[singlepic id=822 w=320 h=240 float=center]
When we shop for a diamond…whatever, first we have to choose between several things: the material we want to use together with the diamond: should it be: stainless steel, silver, gold, platinum, titanium, pearls? Second, oh, I think this had to be first…the price…as you know, this can fluctuate from 100$ to >20.000 $, depends on the shape, the utility the color of the diamond and of course, the number of carats.
Actually we did some on-line shopping for you, and here is a small list of jewelry with diamonds, under 100$ each! We say…it’s almost holyday time…why don’t we spend some money for ourselves?! A diamond is, after all, a woman’s best friend right? Never cheats, never barks, never argues, never scratches, never brakes.
